In recent years, aesthetic medical practice has gained popularity and as it is a consumer driven service, the public needs to be well informed and updated. Popularity of a particular doctor or a clinic could be influenced by marketing hype or heavy online and off-line advertising. However, online popularity doesn't necessary mean that the clinic or the surgeon is the best in town for all kinds of aesthetic procedures.
Apart from that, there are many un-licensed aesthetic practitioners who are riding on this popularity and consumer demand. The number of cases done by plastic surgeons are also on the increasing trend. Not every aesthetic practitioner is a qualified medical doctor and is properly trained to perform medical aesthetic procedures and cosmetic surgeries. Make sure that your aesthetic practitioner is a qualified medical doctor and has the right training, experience and is registered with the Ministry of Health.
In order to ensure the safety of aesthetic medical practice in Malaysia, the Ministry of Health has issued guidelines on Aesthetic Medical Practice.
Further, some consumers may be confused with what procedures that can be performed by a beautician and procedures that can be performed by medical aesthetic practitioners.
